Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home.

In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham J as (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. 1. Favorite Raimi flick = Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn.
This movie is an excellent example of fun slapstick-horror that I further respect due to it’s memorable performances and humble production. This film is a genre classic that never fails to entertain, even on repeated viewings.

  2. I would say Evil Dead II. Bruce Campbell’s performance was excellent! It makes you wonder if The Three Stooges were evil because when Ash becomes possessed that is what he is like.

This is also one of, if not the, first films to utilize the steadicam.

I like The Quick and the Dead also. Who wouldn’t like a character framed in a bullet hole?

    I own both on laserdisc!

  3. My favorite Sam Raimi film probably is Army Of Darkness, it’s so wacky and crazy. But Spiderman 2 was kinda cool too…

But I just hope Drag Me To Hell takes the cake and steals the first place spot after I see it!

  4. Favorite Sam Raimi is a photo finish tie between The Hudsucker Proxy and Evil Dead 2 (which I almost didn’t want to answer just because I saw the other guys posting the same, darn you against the grain mentality!). I know that Raimi may have not been the head of production but did help co-write the script and held 2nd unit. Any movie where people talk faster than bullet fire with an overwhelming sense of humor and a cast that is as committed as it is interesting is all a growing boy needs for a healthy diet.

Right after you see the paper drawn circle for the first time you are in another world.

Actually I am not sure if the blood dripping down into the lightbulb was Evil Dead 1 or 2 but that image became as timeless personally as Bruce’s Chainsaw.

Honorable mention : Machoman vs Spiderman wrestling match. Aronofsky’s Wrestler can go lick a toad, long live Randy Savage!

  5. pretty sure any raimi movie featuring bruce campbell’s chin is my fave! hope the swede fest went well sugartits.

  6. im enjoyed all the spidey movies (even the third one) and i would say if im in a non comic book mood i would have to say that Army of Darkness because its not just cheesy its cheesy-funny on purpose. Hail to the King!!. btw all Evil Dead fans should have heard of /or already watched Evil Dead: The Musical, if not, shame on you and WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!

    1. barely, barely read the synopsis and i was wondering: if your some kind of super voodoo witch person with the powers to vex someone, why didnt you just vex the owner of the house and tell them to hand you over the deed, but i guess she’s a nice voodoo witch person who you shouldnt mess with

  7. My favorite Sam Raimi flick is either Army of Darkness or Darkman. Army of Darkness was a cool, crazy and fun film to watch over and over. While Darkman was a great action movie which was about payback. Also Bruce Campbell made the movie great in Army of Darkness!!! Hopefully Drag Me to Hell is a good horror flick!!

  8. My fav Sam Raimi movie is of course the Evil Dead series. Bruce Campbell was awesome and made him who he is!! I really want to see Drag me to hell!!!

  9. Favorite Raimi film is Evil Dead II because its slightly better than the first Evil Dead film. Honorable mention for favorite Raimi film goes to A Simple Plan because its got my favorite performances by Billy Bob Thornton and Bill Paxton in the same movie (!!). Also its a criminally underrated movie.

  10. I loved his grudge movies and 30 days of night. The trailer for this movie looks really goood, I just hope that it is not going to be like every other scary movie. Hopefully he brings something new to the movie.

  11. ARMY OF DARKNESS…… PURE CLASSIC.
I LOVED WATCHING IT OVER AND OVER AS A KID….
    TWO HEADED BRUCE CAMPBELL HILARIOUS….

  12. I haven’t seen many of his films, but the beginning of Army of Darkness was great fun. I’ll have to catch up for when this comes out.

Recently I was in L. A. on tour with my college film club, and while I was at Fotokem, a film processing lab, we were allowed to go through their discarded film supplies. I found a film can from “Drag Me to Hell”, so I snagged it. Score!

  13. Darkman, A Simple Plan, Evil Dead…..the cameo of his beloved “Oldsmobile Delta Royale” in almost all his films now returning to the genre that practically gave birth to his esteemed reputation…Drage Me To Hell is certainly a refreshing way to cool down at the cinema this summer….

….but to choose just one…For narrative structure, it would have to be A Simple Plan….so simple and elegant in its construction….yet pitch perfect in its execution…

……Evil Dead for its pure ingenuity….Raimi’s tendency to strap a camera to the middle of a long wooden board, then run with the board through the woods, creates a truly exhilarating effect….this is a film that is gory, yet also darkly humorous and fiendishly clever….I mean who else could take a fairly contrived premise (teens go into the woods, stay in a cabin…never to be seen again)…and add touches both jolting (the final shot is a knockout) and tasteless (it could be the only movie where a woman is raped by a tree)….

  14. Entertainment wise, it has to be Evil Dead 2, no question about it. Truly a balls to the walls kind of film.

The movie is absolutely hilarious; this effective mix of hardcore horror and slapstick comedy provides a load of laughs, impressive effects, and the very motivated Campbell putting up with a lot as the film-makers set out to abuse his character as much as possible. Evil Dead 2 manages to be even more entertaining than the first movie…which is quite high praise indeed…..

  15. I LOVE THE eVIL dEAD MOVIES HE MADE CUZ THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE THEM! AND BRUCE CAMPBELL IS HOT=)

  16. My favorite of Sam Raini’s films is any of the Evil Dead movies. You can never go wrong with the classics! Hail to the king.

  17. My favorite Sam Raimi is Evil Dead 2 and always will be! an instant classic i can watch over and over again. Hope this movie will meet its standards :) and i hope i win!

  18. Love all of the Evil Dead movies because of the shear brutality! Horror movies today lack creativity and humor and the same thing is always just re-done. The Evil Dead movies were and still are the most unique of their kind! I even had a music project that was almost solely surrounding the Evil Dead theme! “Dead by Dawn” Damn, I love repeating one liners with buddies… good times. Looking forward to seeing a new classic.

  19. My favorite movie by Sam Raimi is A Simple Plan. It’s quite evil and really makes you think.

  20. I haven’t seen a good horror movie in the theaters in so long…i think I’m due to get scared a little. BTW : Army of Darkness ROCKS!!!!!

  21. I have watched the Spiderman movies and enjoyed them. I have not really seen any of his horror films. Some films that are described as “horror” turn out to be pretty tame and boring, if I am able to see this film and like it, I will make an effort to see some of his other films.
    Thank you

  22. Has to be Darkman….Liam Neeson and Larry Drake…what a pair. Classic Raimi with a dash of what was to come on his take on the superhero genre…..while the sequels were lacking….this was a true original…..

  23. I love Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead! I was born in 1984, So I’m not very interested in movies made before 1990. Evil Dead was released in 1981, and I think that the special effects were great for its time! He did a great job with that movie. I’m a big fan of the Spiderman movies as well.

  24. Hands down and DrAg Me To HeLl if I’m lying, but the Evil Dead series is amazing: detail, scenery, gore, you name it it had it. Sam Raimi has a good eye for actors and screen shots so I’m sure if he keeps going at it, making great movies he can certainly reap all of the rewards given for talented movie directors.

  25. Spiderman is my favorite movie cause my boys love the movie and will sit and watch it for hours.

  26. Spider man 2 – perfect in its execution. Love the villinaous Dr. Octopus. Alfred Molina was fantastic. Best sequel in over a decade.

  27. Anyone seen the underrated Crimewave? Really good and showed the world what he was capable of in the future…..

  28. Can’t wait to see it! We are big fans of Sam’s, like all of his stuff! Anything that’s dead, scary and creepy crawly,,,,,,,,,, That’s us!!

    Billie Jean and Charlie Coe

  29. my favorite one was Spiderman deff! Love a super hero in tights and also becasue he belived in love!

  30. army of darkness, gotta love the special effects!

Raimi also produced “hercules: the legendary journeys” and “xena warrior princess” …. two of my favorite shows from the 90s!!

  31. I have a family of 5.32,29,10,7,and3,that love SCARY movies and would love to see DRAG ME TO HELL (:>. THANK’S FOR THE TICKETS.

  32. dude my fiance and i want to see this movie really bad. it looks pretty scary..there hasnt been a good scary movie in a really long time, hopefully that will change with this movie!!

  33. Sounds like this is going to be a good one. My husband hates scary movies, but he agreed to go see this one with me, hopefully it wont dissapoint, cause i want him to go see more scary movies w/ me.

    1. i Forgot to add that Army of Darkness is our favorite. Its scary and funny at the same time

  34. Scary movies rock, and this one looks like it’s gonna be a screamer! I expect it will be the best scary movie made…. can’t wait to see it

  35. Spiderman series….that was my favorite cartoon hero and the way the graphics were was amazing

  36. army of darkness is genius and has a classic horror film feeling. as a director in general, he’s intuitive. I’m excited to see this film because it looks like the first good film in a long while.

  37. Evil Dead….lovely, warm and fuzzy movie. Camera movements, suspense build up, it has it all. Just a solid and fun fun movie….

    …Drag me to Hell…..or drown me in a well…..it all sounds good….

  38. My favorite would have to be The Grudge because i love horror movies and that movie scares me everytime i watch it. I think that the way it was transfered from the Japanese version is so good I al ways have to watch the original and i just thought that The Grudge Was so much better I totally love it!!!! Oh also the fact that this movie has Alision Lohman in it just makes it better!!!

  39. Within the Woods (1978)
Old school type horror film…. you don’t see them made in this fashion any longer. So the movie….. A group of friends all go to this cabin (Within the Woods) and of course there’s the one guy who can’t leave things alone….he desecrates an Indian burial ground. Of course now he has to suffer, so he get’s turned into a zombie. Now he’s off to go and kill off his friends. I won’t spoil the ending for those who have not seen this movie…. but rent it, buy it….watch it and add it to your collection.

  40. I would even watch Spider man 3 for a third time in order to watch Drag Me to Hell….that is how serious i am :)

But seriously, my favourite Raimi movie has to be Army of Darkness. It is off the wall in every way, insanity personified in the best way possible…..love it….

    1. Still have them and haven’t given them out yet. Today is the last day to enter and we’ll be drawing names after midnight tonight so check your emails tomorrow. Thanks for entering!

  41. I love Army of Darkness the whole “this is my boomstick” line is one of the most memorable. I think that Ash’s character was perfect, when he got possessed from the whole windmill scene he was in the was a perfect example of Raimi’s sense of dark comedy. Darkman was also very good I even added the comic book to my collection. I think “Drag me to Hell”will be a fine addition to Raimi’s collection.

  42. This movie sounds awesomely scary. I would love to be one of the first people to see it. My friend Crystal and I live to see scary movies.

  43. First of all, favourite Raimi movie would be Evil Dead. It was in many ways the birth of small budget but extremely creative independant horror films. It combines horror with dark humor in perfect doses….

I am glad there are horror fans out there….but honestly there is not a great deal of choice of good horror coming from this side of the world. You want the real deal, go to France. They have brutal, relentless horror films that really push the viewer. Want some recommendations? Try High Tension, Inside, Calvaire, Martyrs or Frontiers. I guarantee you will be left with your jaws hanging after you see any of these films (especially Martyrs). These are ‘true’ horror films.

    1. Hey, nice horror flick suggestions! If you dig movie stuff, you should definitely stick around this blog.

    2. I did catch High Tension a while back and was left not very impressed. But I do wanna check some of those on your list out, for sure!

  44. I would so love to take my one and only to see this!
We love to be scared together!
I love this director’s eye for the strange and twisted!!
    Send us to it!!

  45. Sorry! got caught up in the moment!
    favorite movie: Army of Darkness
Love the undead army! great facial expressions!
screams turned to laughter- so moving!

  46. I’m thinking this might be one of the few good horror movies to come out lately… usually they just end up cheesy when everything goes over the top, but this looks like just the right mix.

  47. I don’t give a shit about this movie, but I want your comment count to hit 90.

    That’s bloggeraderie.

    1. Well Heather, i believe you are one of the contest winners, so perhaps you will slightly give a shit about this movie after you have seen it next week…..cheerio
