Swede Fest 5 set for May 8th, deadline for entries announced

It’s that time of year again and consider this your official reminder to get your team together and start throwing ideas together for Swede Fest 5. The next event goes down on Saturday, May 8th 2010 at 5pm. We’re still working to pin down a venue, but for now keep that date open! So what does that mean if you’re planning on submitting an entry for the festival? Glad you asked! The deadline for entries will be Monday, May 3rd at midnight. The rules for entries are simple and are as follows:

  • Entries must not exceed 5 minutes in length.
  • Entries must not use any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any laws. Swede Fest is an all ages event so please keep that in mind. Feel free to swede Pulp Fiction but use creative ways to cut out the bad stuff.
  • We need to have your entry on DVD. Please email us prior to the deadline to make arrangements for turning in your DVD.
  • We ask that participants NOT upload their entries online before the screening at the festival.
  • If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or need to contact us for any reason, please drop us an email at info@dumbdrum.com. Also, as a courtesy, let us know if you’re planning to submit an entry ahead of time (either by comment or email).

And that’s pretty much everything! As you can see from our past entries (all available on our official site) a swede can be a variety of things: traditionally it’s an entire movie, a trailer or a single scene. But past entries have varied on that formula to include a TV show using PEZ dispensers as the cast, TV news coverage and even a public service announcement so feel free to get creative! (This concept hasn’t been done locally so if you’re looking for an angle, go for it!) You know what to do and if you don’t, please do not hesitate to ask! After the break, we’ve included some of our past entries to help motivate you. So gather up your friends, make a list of your favorite movies, bust out your camera, and get your swede on! It’s a fun experience and there’s nothing like being at Swede Fest and seeing your entry on the big screen! As the director & creator of sweding Michel Gondry once said, “You’ll like this film because you’re in it!”
