Swede Fest 7 set for May 14th, we need your entries!

We’re proud to announce the world’s longest-running festival devoted to sweded films will be returning this May. We’re also excited to reveal that we will be returning to downtown Fresno! Swede Fest 7 will take place at Full Circle Brewing Co. (located at 620 F. Street) Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. The event is still all ages and FREE for all to come, enjoy and have a good time. So now that we have a date, we need YOUR creative juices to start flowing. The deadline to get your Swede entry in for the festival is Monday, May 9th at 11:59 p.m., and it is FREE to enter. Of course, we have some rules and here they are:

  • Entries must not exceed 5 minutes in length.
  • Entries must not use any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening or sexually-orientated language, or any other material that may violate any laws. Swede Fest is an all ages event so please keep that in mind. Feel free to swede films like Pulp Fiction, but use creative ways to cut out the bad stuff.
  • We must have your entry on DVD or preferably a digital file (.mov or .avi). Please email us at info@dumbdrum.com prior to the deadline to make arrangements for turning in your entry.
  • We ask that participants DO NOT upload their entries to YouTube, Vimeo, etc. before they screen at Swede Fest 7.
  • If you have any questions, concerns or need to contact us for any reason, please email us at info@dumbdrum.com. Also, as a courtesy, let us know if you’re planning to submit an entry ahead of time.
  • If you’re looking for some inspiration, you can check out all our past entries at the official Swede Fest website. Traditionally, people have sweded movies. Sometimes they tackle the entire film, sometimes just the trailer, and other times just a scene. Other folks have branched out and sweded a TV showTV news coverage, and even a public service announcement. So feel free to get creative (psst … this concept hasn’t been done locally, so if you’re looking for an angle, go for it)! Just remember, this is a family-friendly event, so keep that in mind when thinking about swedeing Eyes Wide Shut.

Gather up your friends, families and pets, make a list of your favorite movies, bust out your camera (your cell phone has a camera so no excuse), and get your swede on! It’s a fun experience and there’s nothing like being at Swede Fest and seeing your entry on the big screen with an audience! As the director of Be Kind Rewind & swede creator Michel Gondry once said, “You’ll like this film because you’re in it!”.
