Das Überpost: Comic Con 2010 wrap-up

Yeah, we weren’t actually there but there was a plethora of news that came out of San Diego Comic Con this weekend and we felt it was our duty to get you all caught up on some of the bigger news bits that came out of the show. And no, we ain’t talking about crazy, stab happy Harry Potter fans!

• Up until last night, the biggest awesomeness that came out of the con was the reveal of the full Avengers cast on stage. Mark Ruffalo was finally made official as Edward Norton’s replacement for the role of Bruce Banner/Hulk as was long rumored Jeremy Renner coming on board as Clint Barton/Hawkeye.  It was quite the sight to see Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and the aforementioned two actors on stage. Check out the hi-res pic here on Aintitcoolnews. So that’s untoppable, right? That’s what I thought… until late last night I heard about this: It seems that sometime after the announcement in Hall H, Marvel pulled the covers (only for 5 minutes, no less) off a single movie prop over at their movie booth that exploded my head. That piece was the Infinity Gauntlet. I can spend a vast amount of time babbling GEEK about this but just let me say, if this is a hint of the direction they are thinking about taking the Avengers movie, I can TOTALLY get behind this Joss Whedon production with even more of a nerd boner. Check out video from the event here and a from a different angle here and also peep out the pic of the Infinity Gauntlet after the break.Yeah… that shit is TIGHT! [pic via Slash Film]

• The response for Zack Snyder’s next film “Sucker Punch” has been receiving a lot of positive buzz after the director screened some footage from the film this weekend. Not too sure what the who premise is but from some of the pics I’ve seen, it LOOKS pretty cool. But then again, no one has ever accused Zack Snyder films of looking visually boring right? I tell ya, if your movie has a giant robot with machine guns on it, the nerd in me will at least give it a chance.

• “Tron Legacy” was in full force and with that new trailer they dropped, the hype continues to build. The rumored Daft Punk performance didn’t happen at the show but you can catch snippets from the group’s score for the film over here and let me tell you… it sounds AWESOME!

• The American remake of “Let The Right One In” starring Chloe Moretz and directed by Matt Reeves got a new trailer and I have to say, “Let Me In” really seems to have captured the feeling of the original. Check it out:

• For you “Pirates Of The Carribean” fans, Jack Sparrow made a little surprise appearance at the Con in the form of a teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel “On Stranger Tides”. Nothing special but if you gotta have some Jack Sparow in your life, here ya’ go!

• “Iron Man” helmer Jon Favreau’s next film is the new I.P. called “Cowboys & Aliens” starring Daniel Craig & Harrison Ford and the first pic from the movie debuted at the show. Not much else but still a cool pic nevertheless:

• It wasn’t all movies and comic books this weekend as Capcom also revealed that they were teaming up with Namco to produce another cross-over series, this time teaming up the Street Fighter characters to fight the Tekken peeps. about 10 years ago this would have been amazing but these days, not too excited bout it but still think it was pretty cool to see big companies put egos aside and serve up some fan service. It’s still gonna be odd to see Bryan battle Chun-Li but then again, I got over Wolverine vs. Ryu right? Peep out the trailer:

UPDATE: Footage of actual gameplay has leaked. Still a trip to see the two universes colliding.

Also announced at the show was a few characters added to the roster for the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3 game. Check out the announcement trailers for the Mighty Thor and Okami’s Amaterasu:

• There were a ton of other announcement & as stuff comes out this week, we’ll be posting the cooler stuff here. If you’re interested, Collider has put together a couple of very nice photo posts showing off some of the cooler stuff on the show floor and another showing off the cool costumes people created for the show. If you got a few minutes, I highly suggest you check them out and start making plans to attend next year. Preferably in a sexy costume… just like Bryan & I plan to.

  1. The only thing to come out of Comic-Con that interested me was Guillermo del Toro's announcement about the new Haunted Mansion movie.

I'd probably see "Let Me In," though.
