R.I.P. The Designers Republic

url4Earlier this week, I was informed about the death of one of the most influencial graphic design studios and one of my biggest influences (Thanks to Anitlabs for the heads up!). The Designers Republic might not be very well known around these parts but their designs have set trends and inspired many biters (myself included). For most, like myself, the first introduction to these digital artists came via the release of the classic 1995 PS One game Wipeout. The typography, the unorthodox aesthetics, the colors: the design bug had bitten me and I was blown away. The world is gonna a little less brighter knowing that these folks are no longer in business but there is a light at the end of the tunnel: founder Ian Anderson has stated that tDR will go on but he fails to state in what capacity. Well, in the mean time, check out some of their stuff after the break and I will be playing some Wipeout tonight for ol’ times sake. LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!
