Dem Trailers: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

by brodiemashMay 28th, 2011Comments (2)

(Red Band trailer is NSFW) Trailers need to follow a certain standard but this trailer from David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s book of the same name seems to throw that theory right out the window. The result is one of the most captivating trailers of recent years. This trailer is playing in Europe and we should be getting a domestic version real soon but int he mean time, take this Red Band trailer in and bask in it’s awesomeness before the studio pulls it down. Can anyone help identify the song from this trailer?

Swede Fest Tampa Bay coming Fall 2011

by brodiemashMay 24th, 2011Comments (5)

As Swede Fest keeps growing here in Fresno, we’re now spreading our influence to Florida! That video up there is a short announcement from our good friend and former Fresnan Will Albritton who now lives in Tampa Bay and has gathered a group of likeminded Tamponians (not sure if that right but it sounds awesome to me) and they will be putting together Swede Fest Tampa Bay, taking the lead from our very own festival here in Fresno. Details on the event are still coming together but stay tuned here on Dumb Drum and we’ll bring you the most up-to-date info. Side note: is talking on your cell phone illegal in Florida as it is here in Cali? I mean, I guess technically, he wasn’t making a phone call. Anyway, woo hoo!

Dumb Drum explores the historic Liberty Theater

The good folks at Creative Fresno asked us to create a video to show off the awesomeness of Fresno’s historic Liberty Theater for attendees of this past weekend’s Fresno Grand Opry. And that labor of love is the very video we have posted here for your enjoyment, in case you were not able to attend. I can keep spewing out words explaining how awesome it was exploring the theater but to really appreciate it, you need to see it. Because even if you were there on Saturday, you were not able to see what was above you during the performance–the balcony. It’s pretty spellbinding that something like this lives right here in Fresno. And it’s even more sad that it just sits there unused.

Swede Fest 7 is a wrap!

So as some of you might have heard, Swede Fest 7 was a resounding success. With 25 entries total (including one from the U.K. and another from Spain) the festival had some of the most diverse entries we’ve received yet. We’re getting around to uploading all the entries online, including some that have extended versions of the screened films, so please just bear with us as well work to get those properly uploaded to the Swede Fest site. So keep checking back and we’ll be sure to send out a tweet as soon as they are up and ready to view.

Dumb Drum would like to give a shout out to everyone who submitted an entry as without you guys, Swede Fest would not be possible. Too  everyone who helped promote the event, be it tweeting about it to passing out flyers to telling friends on Facebook about the event: THANK YOU! A shout out to the local Fresno bloggers who helped get the word out, it is because of you guys that the popularity of Swede Fest has been so quick to be picked up outside of normal audience and much credit is due. All these people are what makes Fresno so special and without all of you, Swede Fest would not be where it’s at now. Special shout out to Full Circle Brewing Co., Dave Childers at ACELTigerMouth, Weird Fresno and Chris Fierro for all their help. Thanks to all of you and a giant hug from everyone here at Dumb Drum.

Swede Fest 7 update & event details

by brodiemashMay 13th, 2011Comments (2)

The entries are in, the venue is locked down and Swede Fest 7 is almost upon us so we wanted to give you an update on some of the stuff that will be happening at the event, which goes down this Saturday, May 14th at Full Circle Brewing Co. in beautiful downtown Fresno starting at 5pm It’s all ages, it’s free so grab your entire family (and your dentist) and roll on down and check out the community film festival that is all the rage.

  • First off, thanks to everyone who voted Swede Fest the Best Event (non-annual) in the 2011 Fresno Famous Choice Awards. Here’s your chance to experience the event if you’ve never been!
  • Although we’re keeping the number of entries under wraps until the day of the event, wat we can say is that we have surpassed the amount of entries that we’ve had in the past and in those we also have a few international entries. You will be entertained!
  • Hope you come hungry because La Elegante #3 will be out there serving up some delicious tacos to compliment your Full Circle brew (or their awesome root beer, whatever you poison be) so be sure to come early to get your food truck on!
  • We have a limited amount of hand printed Swede Fest 7 posters (as seen up top of this post) that we will be selling at the festival and they look pretty rad. In addition to those, we will also have a limited amount of hand printed posters of the Swede Fest 6 design, all signed and numbered by designer John Rios himself.
  • To top it all off, we will be making a Swede Fest announcement that should be pretty awesome. All I can say about that is that… Will, not sure how much I can really say without Bryan beating me senseless so perhaps I’ve already said too much. Just trust me, it’s kinda cool.

Just as a reminder, here’s the quick little promo video we did a few weeks ago talking about how awesome Swede Fest 7 will be and why you should invite that Roller Derby girl you just befriended.

Yup, it’s on like Voltron so I hope to see you all and please help spread the word. I made the promise to everyone that if we surpass the previous attendance number at this Swede Fest, I will attempt a cartwheel and post video of it on the internet for you all to see my glee. C’mon… lets pack this venue out this weekend. It’s all ages, it’s free… you have no excuses to not be a part of one of the coolest events taking place in the world and it’s right here in Fresno. Hope to see you all this weekend!
