Dem Reviews: Fast Five
The “Fast & Furious” franchise and I have a long history together. I’ve been there since the beginning, through the highs to the lows. The characters aren’t deep but after spending so much time (5 friggan’ movies is a long time) with these people, you can’t help but to feel even the slightest connection with them. Like reading a serialized comic or watching a soap opera, continuity helps build a universe and your return is entirely dependent on how much one decides to invest. For those of you not interested in that stuff, I’ll give you the quick & easy review: if you liked the last film in the franchise or are in need for a decent heist movie, go check this film out and you will not be disappointed. The very epitome of the term “popcorn movie”, “Fast Five” does what it came to do and does it very competently. Read more…
Dem Trailers: Transformers – Dark Of The Moon
Look, we all know Michael Bay isn’t gonna win any Oscar anytime soon. And sure the last Transformers movie was one of the worst films I had ever seen but I’ll still be watching this movie theatrically when it’s released this summer. I just hope it’s no longer than an hour and a half and 90% of that time is filled with action sequences. Actually, the less words spoken, the better in a Michael Bay movie. The trailer looks good visually, but I’m sure it’ll suck donkey balls in the end. Be sure to peep it out in HD over here at Apple. So what do you think of the trailer?
Dem Trailers: Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2
As with every Harry Potter film, the latest trailer always gets me hyped up for the upcoming release date. This one is no different. Expected to premier this weekend in front of prints of “Fast Five”, the newest trailer looks action heavy which, after the last film, I only hope there’s not as much of lulls between action set pieces. So if you’re a fan, you’re gonna go see this, right? Either way, let us know what you think. Also, do yourself a favor and go over to Apple here to see it in glorious HD.
Dem Trailers: Immortals
UPDATE: Quicktime version now up at Apple here.
Sure, from the get go, one might easily think that they’re watching a trailer for a little Zack Snyder film named “300″. I mean they even recall to film right there when talking about the producers. And on any normal day, I’d stay far away from this type of film. But there’s one main reason I will give this film a chance and that reason is Tarsem. The director of one of my favorite films of the past decade, Tarsem is helming this little adventure with a little “Clash Of The Titans” twist. His style of filmmaking isn’t totally apparent in this first trailer but I have faith that he’ll be able to pull off something at least a little more watchable than the aformentioned 2010 film. Not blown away but I dig what I see. So what do you think?
Reminder! There’s still time to submit an entry for Swede Fest 7
With Swede Fest 7 coming up in a few weeks, we wanted to remind ya’ll that there’s still plenty of time to gather some of your homies and create and entry for the festival. Also, some people might still be unsure that the location for the festival so this video also reiterates that very point. I wish i could tell you some of the cool stuff we have coming up on May 14th but alas I cannot spoil the surprises but believe you me, it’s gonna be kinda cool. Stay tuned here and over on the official Swede Fest site for all the latest info and please help spread the word as I have made a promise to film myself completing a cartwheel and post it here if we can beat the attendance record from the previous festival so be sure to let it be known. I mean, how doesn’t want to see a fat man attempt a cartwheel, right? Hope to see you and your crew at Full Circle on May 14th!
“Fast Five” car chase scene leaks, new Dodge Charger featured
Not sure where this originates but what we have here is a car chase scene from “Fast Five”, which releases this week across theaters (or if you were cool enough to win tickets here, you’ll be seeing this tomorrow night). Sure, it’s all in French but we get almost 4 minutes of carsploitation goodness so if you’re weaker than I am or simply have no issues with being spoiled before seeing the full film, knock yourself out and enjoy some newly redesigned Dodge Chargers pulling a giant friggan’ bank vault behind them (yup, I love popcorn movies). But hurry because who knows how long before the studio decides to pull this bad boy. Hope to see some of you out at the premier tomorrow night!
Dem Trailers: Submarine
To call this film as “Wes Anderson-y” would be an accurate description of the film’s style. At least from this trailer. “Submarine” has been getting some pretty good reviews since hitting the film festival circuit and this first trailer hitting stateside really does a good job of showing off some good scenes from the film. I’m totally digging the style and look of the film & dialogue. And don’t let that Ben Stiller credit at the front of the trailer disWhat do you think?
