Modern Warfare 3 announcement looming?

by BrandonFeb 28th, 2011Comment (1)

While perusing through my news reader I came across an interesting tidbit about a domain that had been registered by a privacy protected party, early last week. All that currently appears on the site, http://findmakarov.com is a small amount of dialogue that mentions “Soap”, and a daunting countdown (in a Modern Warfare style) that appears to coincide with the 2011 Game Developer’s Conference (GDC).  As far as the naming of the site, Makarov was the name of the protege of Call of Duty 4’s villian, Imran Zakhaev, and the main antagonist from Modern Warfare 2. Free nerd music: chiptune Wu-Tang and “Moon” themed hip-hop

by brodiemashFeb 25th, 2011Leave a Comment

It’s Friday so why not start off the weekend with some new, free music!? This week, I came across these two albums from some upstarts on the internet with some heavy nerd roots. First we’ve got Saftey Words with “The Ghostfaced Pixels”, a mixtape that takes some classic Wu-Tang hits and laces them over some chiptune beats. Video game classic sounds permeate the entire mixtape and will certainly be a throw back for anyone who was a fan of Nintendo back in the days. Not for everyone but the when the blend works, it works pretty well. You can download the mixtape for free here. And be sure to listen to the hilarious track “The Princess Can Fly” and listen to a compelling argument for Mario Bros. 2 being the best of the series. Read on after the jump to catch another free album to round out your Friday tunes. Read more…

Dem Trailers: The Hangover 2

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: “The Hangover” was HELLA overrated/ Sure, it was funny but one of the best comedies of all-time? Nope. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I can really appreciate this teaser. A non-traditional trailer that builds off the critical praise the original received all while Jay-Z’s “Reminder” bumps in the background. Well done and I’ll be there to peep this one out. I just hope people don’t over hype this one as much as they did the first one. So what do you think of the teaser for the “funniest movie of 2009″?

Random Goodness: ‘House’ spoofs ‘Pulp Fiction’

I’m always saying “House M.D.” is one of the best written, best acted, best shot, and best all around shows on television right now. And the clip above backs me up. On this week’s episode there’s a shot-by-shot homage to the classic opening scene from Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” check it out and enjoy… greatly. For those non-House-fanatics (which you should rectify immediately), here’s a little context.

Dem Trailers: Sucker Punch

The story of Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch” is this: it’s not testing very well so far. Now that may be speculation at this point but it’s been flowing through the grapevine that Warner Bros. isn’t very happy with the initial results from the film. And they just handed the director the keys to their “Superman” reboot. Yep. Well, the nerd in me wants to think that women will love this film and embrace it as a balls out action flick since, from the trailer, it seems to encompass many nerd clichés. But that’s just the adolescent in me. Realistically, this film will probably only play to that nerd demo and if it ever finds a cult following, it will be well after it’s theatrical run. So what do you think? Will you be out there day one to check this one out? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Random Goodness: The Black Mamba

Having just watched “Desperado” again not too long ago, it makes me sad to see how far Robert Rodriguez has strayed from his roots. I still love the guy but those movies of yesteryear were so filed with inventiveness and creativity. When I see him doing Nike commercials that really don’t bring something new (this came off as a rehash of the “Grindhouse” theme he’s been doing for the past few years) to the game, the kid in me who was wowed by “El Mariachi” gets a frown on his face. But back to the news… The short film stars Kobe Bryant, Kanye West, Danny Trejo & Bruce Willis. Yeah, cool cast but I ended up not impressed by the final product (the explosion of the gas station was my favorite part). But if you think I’m wrong, please leave a comment and let me know what you think of the commercial/film.

Dumb Drum will be talking web videos at the next Social Media Club event

Because this pic by Ryan Jones is EPIC, I can't figure out what else to use for this post and I want to go back to playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ASAP!

Have you watched an episode of Cross Streets and always thought to yourself “If those buffoons can do a video series, so can I!”? Well here’s your chance to get a leg up on getting that idea off the ground by attending the Social Media Club of Fresno‘s workshop “Creating Video For the Web.” It goes down Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Valley Business Incubator (located near Shaw and Cedar) right here in Fresno. We will be there discussing various topics, including how to get a web series working.

Also speaking will be Enrique Meza, the man behind The No Network, as well as Mark Royce, Media Producer at Fresno Pacific University. The cover charge is $5 but that’s only there to cover the pizza and refreshments (I even heard there might be beer!) that will be there ready for you to either A) consume and satify your hunger or B) throw at us when you finally realize what a couple of frauds we are. Either way, you’ll have pizza in your hands and, hopefully, a little more knowledge and inspiration than when you walked in through the doors.

Be sure to RSVP here for the event and we hope to see some of you guys out there next week!
