Random Goodness: “Ethiran” is insane!

by brodiemashJan 28th, 2011Leave a Comment

There not much I can say to describe this clip, which all comes from the Indian film “Ethiran”, except for “FUCKING BANANAS!” The film was India’s most expensive film of all time and went on to become the second highes grossing film for them as well. If I had an unlimited budget and the ability to make films when I was 14-years old, this is exactly the type of shit I would have made, no doubt. I kinda want to see the rest of the film now. Extended Cross Streets segment on KSEE’s “We Are Fresno”

by brodiemashJan 25th, 2011Leave a Comment

Sure, you may have already seen the original segment but as part of an hour-long “We Are Fresno” special, this one has “special features” in which Stefani Booroojian asks us to respond to all the critics that say we’re making fun of Fresno with Cross Streets. It took every fiber in my being to hold Bryan back from going Bjork on poor Stefani but I was able to tame his firey belly. And for those who have been asking, a new Cross Streets will be coming next week. It’s been a long time, we shouldn’t have left you… Shout out to KSEE 24 and all the cool peeps that put us on! And while I’m here, that pretty lady who can’t stop singing our enchanting theme song.

TONIGHT: Fresno Filmworks presents “Waste Land”

by BryanJan 14th, 2011Leave a Comment

It’s the second Friday of the month, and you know what that means: Fresno Filmworks. To kick off the new year, Filmworks is screening a documentary called “Waste Land” from the UK and Brazil. It follows the story of Brooklyn artist Vik Muniz as he travels back to his native Brazil to explore one of the largest landfills in Latin America, Jardim Gramacho, and the people who live there. The Fresno Bee’s movie critic Donald Munro highly recommends the film giving it an “A” in his review. Check out the trailer above and come out tonight to The Tower Theatre at either 5:30 or 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 or $8 for students and seniors. Support the local film scene!

First official pic of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, clear pic of Captain America

Let’s all take a moment and take this in. Okay… dude is Peter Parker skinny, so he’s got that going for him. I was hesitant about Andrew Garfield in the role but I have to say, this pic alone has changed my stance. The suit looks pretty damn close to the one Sam Raimi used in his films and there’s nothing wrong with that. So far, I have to say this looks… wait a minute, what are those? Are those web shooters I see near the wrists of the kid? HOLY SHIT, I think it is! Okay, Marc Webb… you have my attention. Bravo on the choice to keep it real, sir! What do you guys think? And if that wasn’t enough, check out a non-blurry cam pic of Chris Evans as Captain America in full gear after the jump (via EW). I have to say… I’m digging the look of everything here. The wings on the helmet as a decal? Perfect! Read more…

Dem Trailers: Battle Los Angeles

by brodiemashJan 13th, 2011Leave a Comment

From director Jonathan Liebesman (I had to look him up, never heard of him either), “Battle: Los Angeles” has all the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster without all the hype. From the trailers, the film looks pretty compelling and this new one is no different. Although I feel they’ve revealed a bit much with the aliens, I hope they can keep much of it undercover before the films release in a few months. Starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez (who probably ends up dying) and Bridget Moynahan, there are no top-tier star names so that means more money for special effects, which look pretty nifty so far. So what do you think? An “Independence Day” clone or a new IP that will wow us all? Let us know!

Dem Reviews: Famous Whitewater Triple Take

by Famous WhitewaterJan 5th, 2011Leave a Comment

“House,” aka “Hausu”To start off, we’re talking about “House” (Hausu), not “House,” the 1980s horror flick with the dude from “Night Court” or “House,” the current television hit staring Hugh Laurie. This is the avant-garde Japanese film from the 1970s, which somehow resurfaced as a cult hit last year. That should tell you everything you need to know. This is the type of film you’d watch on the basis of its movie poster alone, given you were into movie-poster art, and you could track down a copy (lucky for us, there’s Netflix). In one respect, it’s a simple ghost stories — seven school girls take a trip to the country, to an old, dilapidated house, and they fall prey to the ghost living inside. Then, they die off one by one. But “Hausu” is also a product of its time, its place and the director’s artist vision, and that makes it acid-trip crazy. There’s a flesh-eating piano, a killer light fixture and a room full of blood. Oh, and a fluffy white cat with an evil glint in its eye (literally). Make no mistake, “Hausu” is visually stunning, but it’s weird (so, so weird) and probably not accessible to any mass audience. Of course, mass audiences love “Little Fockers,” so … (shoulder shrug).

You’ll like this if: you liked “Cemetery Man” or are a fan of Dario Argento.
