Happy T-Giving from Dumb Drum! And what a better way to celebrate the holidays than by huddling around the warm glow of the computer screen with your family or loved ones and watching funny cats doing stupid things. Enjoy!

Getting older means changing video game tastes

Last week, Activision released the latest installment in the Call Of Duty series and as the chapters before it, the title raked in buckets of cash for the developer. I was one of those people that went out there on release date and picked up the title. Now there wasn’t a single moment in the months leading up to said release that I caught myself saying “Man, I really want to purchase this game on the street date.” These days, I tend to wait until games drop from their full MSRP price (I certainly live up to the URL of CheapAssGamer.com, which is bookmarked on my browser) but this time, I have to admit… the marketing won me over. It happens to the best of us and although it’s hard for me to admit, they sold me with the cool action sequences and the prospect of destroying others in an online arena. I’ve been playing pretty actively for the past week and I certainly feel like I’ve got my money’s worth with the purchase. The downside? I certainly feel dumber for playing it. Why? Maybe because at the end of murdering foos and leveling up, I get up out my chair after a session and feel I just wasted time. And that’s when I begin to wonder: “Does a game exist where I can actually gain something from playing?” Enter Gran Turismo 5, releasing this week on Playstation 3. In my book: GT5 equals “smart” while something like Black Ops = “dumb.”

Dem Trailers: Cowboys and Aliens

What the hell is Jon Favreau doing directing a non-Iron Man movie? Oh… he’s making a movie that oozes with originality & overall dopeness, huh? Okay, that’s cool then I guess. Sure, with a title like “Cowboys and Aliens” one might be quick to dismiss the film, based on a independent comic book of the same name, as something dorky and adolescent. After watching that trailer up there, suddenly next year’s “Thor” has been replaced in it’s spot at 2nd most anticipated film of 2011 on my list. Just seeing Daniel Craig & Harrison Ford in the same movie together has me throwing my money at the screen like a rapper on a video shoot. What do you guys think? And if you need a higher res version of the trailer to make your decision, head on over here to Yahoo! to get it in HD. Damn, this looks good…

Dem Reviews: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt. 1

Every time a new Harry Potter film gets released, I walk into the theater with hopes so high that I always end up leaving disappointed. Not that the films in the series up to this point haven’t been well done, quite the opposite in fact. No, I think it’s just as a dude that has never read any of the books by J.K. Rowling, I really lack the connection to the beloved characters that everyone else seems attached to. Maybe this is how other people feel when they go see a movie about a smart guy who build a suit of metal based on a comic book. Investment in the series just isn’t there for me. But not withstanding, I have never left a screening of any of the Harry Potter films feeling as they didn’t deserve my money and I’ve made it a point to watch every single one theatrically and with every single release, the seem to get more and more impressive (“Prisoner Of Azkaban” is still my favorite) and the same holds true for this one. (Spoilers from this point on so be warned!) Read more…

Dem Trailers: Cars 2

And the next Pixar movie is upon us with “Cars 2″, co-directed by Fresno State alumni and former mayor of San Carlos Brad Lewis (the other co-director being Pixar leader John Lasseter) so at very least we gotta go and watch this to support local filmmakers, right? Honestly though, it’s not like this movie isn’t going to make billions of dollars. Sure, the trailer seems to go in a totally different path than the first film pitting Lightning McQueen & Mater as spys of sorts. The plot seems to mimic “The Incredibles” but I’m okay with that but I’m not the biggest “Cars” fan. And is that “Supreme Beings Of Leisure” singing the theme song? Anyways, what do you guys think? Straying too far from the formula or a refreshing new twist on the classic tale? That’s a shit ton of questions! And if you need to see this in HD, Yahoo! has the trailer in HD here. Let us know what you think!

Random Goodness: The Roast of Mario

by brodiemashNov 17th, 2010Comments (2)

(Warning: language is a little NSFW) I love comedy roasts. I know some people might find them a bit mean spirited but if one can’t laugh at themselves… sorry, I forgot where I was going with that. Anyways, the fine folk at College Humor have done this pretty awesome roast of everyone’s favorite video game plummer, Mario! And with some special guests from all around the video game block, it quickly turns into absolute awesome sauce! Now I’m left wondering who should be next on the video game roasting block. Suggestions?
