by brodiemashOct 29th, 2010Leave a Comment

Man… and I thought The Dumb Are Mostly Intrigued By The Drum was a long title. Maybe they can shorten it to “The View.” Well that probably won’t work. ANYWAYS, Bryan & I were invited to join local prolific podcasters Ed Stewart & Adam Wall on The View Looks Good From Here, Fresno show and you can peep it out here as we talk about some Dumb Drum history, Swede Fest fun facts and various other Fresno film related topics. And just in case you’ve ever wondered if how we’d rather die, bear or shark, you can finally get some proper shut-eye as we finally answer said question. The perfect way to start your weekend and perhaps some inspiration to finish your swede by Monday’s deadline. There’s still plenty of time!

The Angry Filmmaker Survival Guide Tour comes to Fresno

by BryanOct 28th, 2010Leave a Comment

Fresno State’s Mass Comm & Journalism Department and the Fresno Filmmakers Alliance are teaming up to bring The Angry Filmmaker Survival Guide Tour to Fresno. The self-titled “angry filmmaker,” also known as Kelley Baker (pictured above, not looking like a super angry guy), was the sound designer on several of Gus Van Sant’s films (Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, etc), and is an independent filmmaker with three full-length, distributed feature films under his belt. Joining him will be Jon Gann, the founder of the very popular DC Shorts Film Festival, which was recently named one of the 25 Festivals Worth the Fee by Moviemaker Magazine. It should be an interesting lecture as Kelley and Jon will discuss the challenges that independent filmmakers face not only trying to produce their film, but also getting it financed and distributed. Hopefully there will be a few intrigued entrepreneurs in the audience! Tickets are pretty cheap for an event like this, only $10, and can be purchased online or at the door. The event goes down next Thursday, November 4 at 7 p.m. at the Lyles Center Auditorium inside the Student Rec Center, located west of the Save Mart Center. Parking is free, but you have to use the code “17060058″ in one of the on-campus kiosks. Let’s get out there and support local film stuffs!

Daft Punk song & cameo revealed in new Tron Legacy ad

I saw the original “Tron” soon after it was first released back in the days. I remember nothing of it. Last night, I saw it again for “the first time” and I have to say it was pretty dumb. I’m still hella looking forward to December’s “Tron Legacy” and with this new ad featuring everyone’s favorite electronica duo Daft Punk from the film and a new song called “Derezzed” from the soundtrack, it just made me forget how bad the original was. I can’t wait for the film but the soundtrack comes a close second in the HYPE column for me. This film simply looks and sounds AMAZING!

Dem Trailers: Apocalypse, CA

Former Fresnan Chad Peter has been working on his debut feature-film “Apocalypse, CA” for over 2 years now and just released a teaser trailer on Thursday. The film, which was shot in San Clemente and Palm Springs, is dark comedy that follows a group of friends as they prepare for certain death at the hands of a massive asteroid, sex-inducing drugs, a three-hundred foot giant, and a horde of other unfortunate problems. Like with most teasers, you may not quite get the “story” from this trailer, but I must say it looks pretty awesome! Check it out above and show a former Fresnan some support by “liking” the film’s Facebook page. Hopefully “Apocalypse, CA” will be hitting theaters (or Blu-Ray/DVD) in mid-2011.

If you’ve been reading the Fresno internets lately there’s no doubt you’ve heard about the Fresno Urban Sound Experience. It’s Fresno’s very own independent music festival and it’s happening tonight from 5pm to… 2am or whenever they kick you out! This year all the venues are conveniently located on Fulton Street, between Tuolumne and Divisadero, in the Cultural Arts District. Tickets are $20, or $15 if you’re a member of Creative Fresno, and can be purchased at the Warnor’s Theatre box office. 30 bands, 5 venues. All the details are here. So come out and support Fresno’s local music scene, should be an awesome night. Let us know your thoughts in the comments (pre or post show!).

Dem Reviews: Hereafter

by BryanOct 21st, 2010Comments (2)

As someone who loves movies, I am incredibly pleased that a talented director like Clint Eastwood is still making films into his 80′s. “Hereafter” is his latest, but not greatest. It begins with a stunning reenactment of the 2004 Indonesian tsunami in which one of the main characters, French Journalist Marie Lelay (Cécile De France), is nearly killed, but miraculously survives. Her story runs parallel with two others, which all seem destined to connect at some point. Read more…

Dem Trailers: Biutiful

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen Alejandro González Iñárritu helm a feature film (since 2006′s “Babel”) and that got him nominated for an Oscar. Well, the buzz around his latest is just the same as “Biutiful” has quickly become the festival darling and the talk about Javier Bardem’s performance has reached insane levels. And with that, we get the first domestic trailer for the film and it looks pretty that’s for sure but besides a few pull quotes from critics, we don’t get any dialogue from the actual film. Either way, it definitely looks like Iñárritu has another good film under his belt. What do you think?
