Dem Reviews: The Social Network
Never been a big fan of Jesse Eisenberg. He’s always come off to me as the poor man’s Michael Cera, I guess. And I find it fitting that in the year that Cera was able to move a little off his usual movie persona with the awesome “Scott Pilgrim,” Eisenberg has almost leapfrogged him with this performance in David Fincher’s “The Social Network.”
Eisenberg’s performance in the film is something different than his previous acting gigs in “Adventureland” and “Zombieland” and, although not groundbreaking, it’s refreshing to see him go outside his norm. The acting in the film is overall pretty awesome, and it may be that most of the actors involved are still relatively under the radar, and that helped with the immersion (something tells me Andrew Garfield is going places, and not just because he was cast as Peter Parker, replacing Tobey Maguire in the reboot of the Spider-Man film series). Tonight! Fulton Mall public meeting
If you DO give two shits (or even one shit) about the Fulton Mall and downtown revitalization, you should be at the City of Fresno’s public meeting tonight, details in the video. If you’re lucky, maybe a fight will break out… tick… tick… tick…
Dem Trailers: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
For some reason, I think Harry Potter movies should all be released in the month of October. They just scream Halloween release but I guess that’s why I’m not in Hollywood marketing. At least we get some cool trailers to hold us over in the mean time. This trailer is specifically for the penultimate installment in the Harry Potter film series which is set to be released in November, with the final part releasing next year. I’m not the biggest Potter fan, and I’ve said this before and ended up disappointed, but I’m looking forward to this one. I don’t know, I guess it’s all the cool stuff that has to happen in order to end the series with a bang. And also, I read the Wiki page and know what happens at the end. I’m weak. But this trailer isn’t, no siree! You can check out the HD version over here on Yahoo is you need that but otherwise, let us know what you think.
DSLR guru Vincent Laforet at the Tower Theater Sept 21!
If you keep up to date with the latest in camera technology, there’s no doubt you’ve heard the name Vincent Laforet. People like Vincent, Philip Bloom, and Shane Hurlbut (to name a few) are leading the way in experimentation with DSLR’s for video and filmmaking. So you can imagine my surprise when I heard Horn Photo was bringing Vincent Laforet to Fresno to give his presentation, “Evolution: From Stills to Cinema” at The Tower Theater on Tuesday, September 21 at 7:00pm! What an awesome opportunity for valley photographers, filmmakers, and enthusiasts to come listen to not only a Pulitzer-Prize winning photographer, but also one of the leaders in DSLR filmmaking. Tickets are very affordable at $10 for general and $5 for students/seniors/children, and can be purchased at Horn Photo in North Fresno or at the Tower Theater box office before the show. After the jump, check out Vincent Laforet’s amazing demo reel. Read more…
Dem Trailers: The Fighter
David O. Russell is a difficult director to work with. If some of you might remember, he’s gotten involved in a few spats here and there on the set of his films but as a director, I have to say the man has done some excellent work. But his direction is only part of it as he’s had some good actors to play off of as well and this time seems no different. The real story here seems to be Christian Bale who looks deathly thin, almost back to his “The Machinist” weight class, and comes off almost unrecognizable here. They film, based on the real life story of boxer Mickey Ward, looks ripe for all types of Oscar potential and something tells me this is exactly what will happen. But then again, it’s just a trailer that, for my money, gives away a lot of the plotline so what do I know. What do you think? Is this film gonna see Oscar gold next year or will this tank like the last couple of David O. Russell films?
Random Goodness: Celebrities playing Halo:Reach
Now I haven’t been able to make it out to the stores to pick up my copy of Bungie’s official last entry into the Halo series in Halo:Reach, but I plan on doing so this weekend. In the mean time, see how LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, the guy from “Chuck” and a special surprise guest do when navigating the multiplayer seas. Something tells me there would be a lot more shit talking in real life than this, especially from that last guy. BTW, if you guys are down for some multiplayer action from this guy, be sure to add me on LIVE. My gamertag is “neobrodiemash” and I wish you the best of luck. Don’t worry, I suck balls :(
