Dem Trailers: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Michael Cera might be suffering from that Bejamin Button disease because he just seems to look younger in this trailer. Kinda of odd… anyways, Edgar Wright has release the full trailer this weekend for his upcoming comic book adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim series and it continues to look wonderful. If this film and “Inception” come through in the “Awesome!” department, I will consider this a successful summer for movies. And if you need to see this in glorious Quicktime HD, you can peep it here at the Apple site. What do you think of the newest trailer?
Random Goodness: Iron Baby
I always wondered what a toddler would look like in an Iron Man suit and today, my curiousity has been quenched. Not sure what this guys background is in special effects but he did a wonderful job with all the CGI here. Seriously, I was not gonna click on the video either but once you check it out, you’ll see… it’s kinda good! If you’re into Iron Babies, that is.
Dem Trailers: Morning Glory
Out of left field comes this film produced by J.J. Abrams starring Harrison Ford and future ex-wife of mine Rachel McAdams. Now don’t get me wrong, usually I steer away from these kind of films but something about it really drew me in. Maybe it was the chemistry between Diane Keaton & Ford or seeing that Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson) & The Fly (Jeff Goldblum) are getting work again… okay really, it was that shot of Rachel McAdams. You know the one I’m talking about ;) But naw, seriously, the film looks it can be pretty good and the cast is pretty awesome. What do you think?
Rock The Bells 2010 lineup announced
So I guess no Lauryn Hill as it had been rumored but this is still pretty amazing. I hadn’t heard about this new format artists have been doing as of late in which they perform entire albums worth of material but I’m okay with the Wu-Tang Clan performing all of “Enter The 36 Chambers”. The rest of the lineup for the 2010 Rock The Bells concert, going down August 21 in Los Angeles and Aug. 22 in San Francisco, doesn’t look as heavy as previous years which is better because jumping between stages when multiple artists are performing always means you’ll be missing some of them. Not being a fan of the whole “festival” experience (blame it on my ass getting older, I guess) this should work very well for me. Not sure if any of the other artists are slated to do the same but with heavy hitters like KRS-One, Rakim & Slick Rick slated to perform, I think that will only be the cherry on top of my Wu-Tang sundae. So what do you think of the line up? Are we really getting that local caravan going to Shoreline (or maybe San Bernardino) this time? Comment away and check out all the details on the official Rock The Bells site here.
Banksy comes to town as Fresno Filmworks picks up “Exit Through The Gift Shop” for August
“Holy shit!” Those were the exact words out of my mouth when I heard that Fresno Filmworks had somehow managed to book Bansky’s film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” at Tower Theater going down on August 13th. This has to be, in my opinion, the single greatest film that the organization has ever brought into town and I applaud them. The film has been getting rave reviews across the board, but as of now has only screened at a few select film festivals and received a limited release last month. So to see that it’s coming to Fresno is really a big deal. For the uninitiated, Banksy is considered one of the pioneers of Street Art, right along side with Lee Quiñones and Shepard Faiery. But what makes Banksy extra special is his underground nature. His face has never been revealed and his pieces usually appear overnight on walls across the world without warning. One of his most famous stunts includes what was dubbed as “The Punking Of Paris Hilton” in where the artist bought a few of the celebutante’s CD and altered them before returning them to the store for other people to see his message. Brilliant! There’s plenty of stories about the artist known as Banksy, a lot of them bordering on legendary and although I’ve heard that the film doesn’t shine the spotlight too brightly on the artist himself, the end result of his first foray into film is said to be a great one and I’m really looking forward to checking this out, right here in Fresno. So spread the word and lets get the Tower Theater packed when it opens up here! And MAD PROPS to Fresno Filmworks for bringing the film to the masses here in Fresno! Dumb Drum is hoping to be doing some extra special stuff to help promote the film so check back! After the break, we’ve posted the latest extended trailer for the film. Peep it out! Read more…
Why Dumb Drum loves Fresno
As part of a KSEE 24 promotion, Bryan & I decided to take our Cross Streets format and throw our hat in the ring (who doesn’t want a free iPad, right?) with our own entry describing why we love this fair city known as Fresno and what you see up there is the final result. So yeah, it’s Thursday afternoon and I really don’t feel like typing too much more sooooooo…. enjoy! And seriously, Tijuana traffic is crazy nuts! Also, feel free to bombard the KSEE site here and leave us some mean comments.
Dumb Drum reaches the Terrible Threes
Usually, these birthday posts are a waste of everyone’s time and this one is no different. But I think for all the the support we get from the readers and for all the hard work that we put into The Dumb Are Mostly Intrigued By The Drum, we should address the milestone as many blogs don’t make it this far, especially around Fresno. 3 years ago on May 15th I started this little blog to post stuff about my films. Needless to say, there wasn’t very much going on there for a while so the blog evolved to what it is now: a one-stop shop for all things nerd! While still keeping active in the local filmmaking community with events like Swede Fest or stepping into new realms for the local blogosphere with our video series Cross Streets along with all the regular series of posts we do, here at Dumb Drum we will continue to delve into the future not with a nudge but rather with a shove and we’d love it if you all continued to join us. All in all, this blog wouldn’t be anything without all the support we’ve received from our readers and supporters so a shout out to all of you. As long as you like what we’re doing, we will keep bringing you our product. Thanks again and hopefully our 4 year anniversary will be a little more, how can I say… “tangible” than a mere blog post :) Keep on Dumb Drumin’!
Dem Trailers: Winnebago Man
(Language is NSFW) Many of us remember the Winnebago Man from the infancy of the internet. One of the first videos to go viral and sweep across to people’s computers via email now has a documentary about the man who just had a bad day caught on camera for everyone to enjoy. Jack Rebney became one of the original overnight internet stars. So naturally some filmmakers have decided to make a documentary on the man. The film has been making the rounds around film festivals for about a year and has been getting some pretty good reviews and now we have an official trailer. Can we expect this at Fresno Filmworks? Probably not but I’ll be anxiously awaiting the DVD release. What do you think?
Random Goodness: Ukrainian President vs. Wreath
This morning, I woke up and before I got out of bed I asked the big guy upstairs for a favor: “Will you bless me today with some funny videos on the internet? It sure has been a while.” Ask and you shall receive! The man came through and I couldn’t be any happier. It sucks that it was at the expense of Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich but man, it was worth it! Side note: Rumors are that Yanukovich ordered the murder squads that killed that wreath’s entire family. Glad to see it finally got it’s revenge.
Random Goodness: Roller Carousel
When brain surgeons have too much free time on their hands they pull stunts like this, no doubt. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that these guys braved the pain in order to entertain the internets. Now this is the kind of stuff Nobel Prizes should be handed out for. Godspeed, German folk!
