Random Goodness: Biff answers your “Back To The Future” questions… in song

by brodiemashDec 29th, 2009Comments (3)

I imagine when you’re part of such an awesome movie series like Back To The Future, you’re gonna get a lot of questions regarding the project. Actor Tom Wilson, who plays “Biff” in the movies and is apparently a stand-up comedian, gets just that and has decided to turn your questions  into a song and answer them all at once. I know it would suck but part of me still would like to see a DeLorean back on the big screen. But it’s probably for the best when Biff says “It’ll never happen”.

Dem Trailers: Inception

So last week the French version if this trailer was released and subsequently pulled from the internet. If you were lucky enough to catch that, you’ll notice that it’s pretty much the same as this official domestic trailer released today. Man, I’m digging the visuals in Christopher Nolan’s newest film but I’m wondering if this is going into Charlie Kaufman territory with the weirdness factor. Regardless, this just got bumped up on my must watch list for 2010. And if you need to catch it in HD like I love my trailers, head on over here to Apple. So what did you think?

Dem Reviews: Sherlock Holmes

by BryanDec 25th, 2009Comments (5)

Me: “Does your depravity know no bounds?”
Guy Ritchie: “No.”

Sherlock Holmes is a mediocre flick. I think the worst part is that the marketing campaign made it out to look like an action movie. That is what initially turned me off. We’re all at least somewhat familiar with the literary figure Sherlock Holmes, and this movie isn’t him. So I was rather surprised when there were only one or two big action scenes in the entire flick. Holmes did break out his ninja skills, but not very often. The rest of the film was rather slow and uninteresting. Read more…

Dem Trailers: Cop Out

by brodiemashDec 24th, 2009Comments (3)

Well, the secret is out and we now know what the studio changed the name of Kevin Smith’s next film from A Couple Of Dicks (read about that whole deal here) to the more network friendly Cop Out. meh. So how does the film look? Well, not at all like any of the director’s previous efforts that, for sure. Although this is the first time he’s ever directed a script that he didn’t write himself, I find it odd that the studio isn’t trying to bank on his name as it doesn’t appear on the trailer until the end credits. From the looks of the trailer, the film really doesn’t stand out as anything special, quite frankly. Hmmm… so you Kevin Smith fans out there, what do you think of this?

City film commission ops now under Creative Fresno

by BryanDec 23rd, 2009Comments (4)

As you may have heard, the Fresno Film & Entertainment Commission was eliminated recently due to cuts in the city’s budget. There was some question moving forward who local and outside productions would turn to if they needed permits or other assistance while shooting within city limits. In the past, the county film commission handled this, and alternatively you could get in touch directly with various city departments (e.g. PARCS if you wanted to film in a city owned park).

But today, the city has agreed to a different, unique solution. A partnership has been formed with the local non-profit organization Creative Fresno, and from here out they will take over all film commission related operations. Film permits and filming on city property will remain free. Ray Arthur will remain in charge of operations as commissioner, an unpaid position. However, he has accepted another job within the City of Fresno.

Very good news for local filmmakers and our local film scene!

French trailer for “Inception” shows up online

by brodiemashDec 23rd, 2009Comment (1)

We’re supposed to be getting the domestic trailer for Christopher Nolan’s follow up to The Dark Knight around these days so so don’t be surprised to see it up here very soon but in the mean time, the French trailer has dropped. Unless you paid attention in high school French class, then more than likely you won’t understand what they’re saying but the visuals speak for themselves. And they are some pretty kick ass visuals. Already on my top 10 must watch list for 2010, this only adds fuel to my desire to check it out.

Dem Trailers: The Karate Kid

by brodiemashDec 22nd, 2009Comments (8)

So he’s learning from Jackie Chan, who’s trained in Kung Fu but the movie is called “The Karate Kid”? Okay. I can sit here and tell you how many ways this film can be the suckiest film ever conceived but the fact of the matter is that I have only the most limited connection to the original film. But it seems like everyone has an opinion when it comes down to remakes of closely held films from the past so please, if you’re a die hard Karate Kid fan, please let us know what you think about the first trailer that shits on pays homage to the original. Is this merely Will Smith wanting his kid to be a star or is Jaden Smith gonna be the next Jim Kelly? Side note, I could of done without the damn Linkin Park song everyone is using on their trailers recently. Please fucking stop this!!

Dem Reviews: Up In The Air

by brodiemashDec 21st, 2009Comment (1)

up_in_the_air_jason_reitman_george_clooney_movie_image_03In this current economic climate, a film about guy who goes around firing people doesn’t seem like a film that would resonate positively with an audience. Sure, the critics have taken Jason Reitman’s latest film to heart and if the Golden Globe nominations that were released last week are any indicator, the film will likely have a successful run this award season. The film has yet to open here in Fresno but is set for a release this week and I look forward to discussing the film with fellow unemployed moviegoers. Is a movie that is timely necessarily make it a better picture? Would I view this film any different if I was unemployed or had recently lost my job? Well, I guess it really doesn’t matter because in my book, I have to agree with the critics on this one: Up In The Air is a good movie. Is it a great movie? Not too sure. Read more…

Kick-Ass red band clip features Hit Girl

by brodiemashDec 21st, 2009Comment (1)

The information on Kick-Ass seems to be really coming out and I’m thinking the release of the bad ass Iron Man 2 trailer last week has something to do with it. This little preview compliments the red band clip from last week featuring Hit Girl, played by 13-year old Chloe Moretz. As I’ve mentioned in the past, the costumes are going to be the X factor in this film but keep in mind that all these “superheroes” are just normal people and any costumes they’d come up with would be made from the same materials that you & I use everyday. No spandex, no unstable molecules. Just Hancocks Fabrics & some thread. But if you can look past that, you can see that an action packed time awaits us come April next year. So what do you think? Has this film made it onto your radar for next year? And just FYI: Red band = NSFW
