Random Goodness: Biff answers your “Back To The Future” questions… in song

by brodiemashDec 29th, 2009Comments (3)

I imagine when you’re part of such an awesome movie series like Back To The Future, you’re gonna get a lot of questions regarding the project. Actor Tom Wilson, who plays “Biff” in the movies and is apparently a stand-up comedian, gets just that and has decided to turn your questions  into a song and answer them all at once. I know it would suck but part of me still would like to see a DeLorean back on the big screen. But it’s probably for the best when Biff says “It’ll never happen”.

Dem Trailers: Inception

So last week the French version if this trailer was released and subsequently pulled from the internet. If you were lucky enough to catch that, you’ll notice that it’s pretty much the same as this official domestic trailer released today. Man, I’m digging the visuals in Christopher Nolan’s newest film but I’m wondering if this is going into Charlie Kaufman territory with the weirdness factor. Regardless, this just got bumped up on my must watch list for 2010. And if you need to catch it in HD like I love my trailers, head on over here to Apple. So what did you think?

Dem Reviews: Sherlock Holmes

by BryanDec 25th, 2009Comments (7)

Me: “Does your depravity know no bounds?”
Guy Ritchie: “No.”

Sherlock Holmes is a mediocre flick. I think the worst part is that the marketing campaign made it out to look like an action movie. That is what initially turned me off. We’re all at least somewhat familiar with the literary figure Sherlock Holmes, and this movie isn’t him. So I was rather surprised when there were only one or two big action scenes in the entire flick. Holmes did break out his ninja skills, but not very often. The rest of the film was rather slow and uninteresting. Read more…

Dem Trailers: Cop Out

by brodiemashDec 24th, 2009Comments (3)

Well, the secret is out and we now know what the studio changed the name of Kevin Smith’s next film from A Couple Of Dicks (read about that whole deal here) to the more network friendly Cop Out. meh. So how does the film look? Well, not at all like any of the director’s previous efforts that, for sure. Although this is the first time he’s ever directed a script that he didn’t write himself, I find it odd that the studio isn’t trying to bank on his name as it doesn’t appear on the trailer until the end credits. From the looks of the trailer, the film really doesn’t stand out as anything special, quite frankly. Hmmm… so you Kevin Smith fans out there, what do you think of this?

City film commission ops now under Creative Fresno

by BryanDec 23rd, 2009Comments (4)

As you may have heard, the Fresno Film & Entertainment Commission was eliminated recently due to cuts in the city’s budget. There was some question moving forward who local and outside productions would turn to if they needed permits or other assistance while shooting within city limits. In the past, the county film commission handled this, and alternatively you could get in touch directly with various city departments (e.g. PARCS if you wanted to film in a city owned park).

But today, the city has agreed to a different, unique solution. A partnership has been formed with the local non-profit organization Creative Fresno, and from here out they will take over all film commission related operations. Film permits and filming on city property will remain free. Ray Arthur will remain in charge of operations as commissioner, an unpaid position. However, he has accepted another job within the City of Fresno.

Very good news for local filmmakers and our local film scene!
