This guy has soooo much talent, swear…. Miyazaki’s Poyo + The Lonely Island’s I’m On A Boat = pretty damn funny. That’s all I got because I got real work to do!

Disney acquires Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion

by brodiemashAug 31st, 2009Comments (5)

disney_MarvelOther than the prospect of riding  Victor Von Doom’s Doom Bot-stravaganza ride at Disneyland, not too sure about how this whole deal. Okay, a little more than concerned actually. Sure, Marvel will finally have the distribution power of the House of Mouse for all their films now (although they still have to honor the deals they have with Paramount, Sony and all the other studios they’ve used) but I’m kinda worried about publishing. Will their independent lines of comic books like MAX & Icon be going away? Some of the best stuff coming from the publisher is on those “mature” lines. Only time will tell and at this point, I’m still left wondering how Marvel can sell it’s newly acquired freedom from the Hollywood studios, especially since they own so many money making IP’s. But I guess $4 billion can make anyone flinch. It’s all about the shareholders these days, after all. I’ll just step back and imagine a bright future where I finally get to see that Marvel vs. Disney fighting game published by Capcom. For the full story head on over here to Variety. What do you guys think?

Dem Trailers: The Men Who Stare At Goats

by brodiemashAug 28th, 2009Comments (2)

Seeing Obi-Wan, Keyser Söze, Danny Ocean & The Dude all in the same movie really won me over. And you can’t dismiss that awesome title. Immediately you see visions of sexual deviants sitting on lawn chairs in an open field. Or maybe that’s just me. On top of that, the story concept reeks of a lost Coen Brothers script. FUN! I mean, who would want the ability to kill goats with your mind bullets?! Check it out and let us know what you think.

  • A recap of the films released this year and declare the best movies we’ve seen so far.
  • Our impressions of recent trailers like Avatar, Inception & Where The Wild Things Are.
  • Discussion on why trailers give away important plot points.
  • Would Bryan Harley sell-out and helm a Twilight film?
  • Details on Swede Fest The Fourth. We need your ideas & comments!
  • Interested in being a guest writer/podcaster? We’re open like 7-11!

As usual (if you remember, I guess) this podcast is NSFW because of naughty language so keep it down if your kids and/or boss is around. Zero Punctuation: 2.5D Hoedown

by brodiemashAug 26th, 2009Leave a Comment

Don’t know what 2.5D stands for? PERFECT! Yahtzee is quick to explain the very term at the beginning of his weekly diatribe known as Zero Punctuation to quickly get you caught up and enjoy the rest of his pooping on the genre. What can I say, I’m a fan of this type of gameplay but the man does bring up some good points that will forever keep me wondering why game developers have become so lazy these last few years. I want what I paid for, dammit! GIMMIE MY EXTRA .5D!! But I digress… check out the video, it’s good for a laugh or six.

Dem Reviews: Inglourious Basterds

inglorious01(Ed. Note: We’re starting a special edition of Dem Reviews here on Dumb Drum today with a guest review from local blogger/podcaster Famous Whitewater from local blog Fresno Famous. In the future we hope to bring you more guest reviews so if you’re interested in participating, feel free to drop me an email at brodiemash@gmail.com and we’ll try to get you on in the future!)

SPOILER ALERT. I’m giving it all away in the first paragraph!

Everybody hates a Nazi.
That’s as good a place to start as any: Everybody hates a Nazi, and when a whole lot of them burn at the end of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds,” you can’t help but relish in the irony of it all. When Hitler (oh yes, Hitler is in the film) gets his face destroyed by a hail of bullets, maybe you get squeamish and avert your eyes. But you don’t feel bad. You never feel bad.
After all, this is HITLER.
He’s the worst of the bad guys. Just ask President Obama. Read more…

Random Goodness: Mario Kart – The Movie

by brodiemashAug 24th, 2009Comment (1)

Following on the heels of the Inglorious Plummers vid we posted last week comes Mario Kart: The Movie. Because we all know that someone in Hollywood is seriously thinking about turning this into a movie. Please don’t. No SRSLY: just put a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger, you’d be doing us all a favor. But I digress. Those spinning power-up boxes made me chuckle.

Dem Trailers: Inception

by brodiemashAug 24th, 2009Comments (3)

After the mega success of The Dark Knight last year, Christopher Nolan became the darling in Hollywood. The director has yet to commit to a third entry into the Batman franchise as he’s been quoted as wanting to do a “smaller” film for his next project. I guess working with Leonardo DiCaprio is considered smaller these days. Inception has been described as “A contemporary science fiction tale set within the architecture of the human mind” which I take is a fancy way of saying “This movie will fuck with your mind!” If you’re into getting your mind fucked with, check out the teaser trailer up there and let us know what you think. And if you need to see this in HD, head on over here to Yahoo! to check it out.

Random Goodness: 8-Bit Trip

by brodiemashAug 23rd, 2009Comment (1)

As I mentioned before, I’m a fan of Chip Tune music and here is some more of that nostalgic stuff along with a dope ass video which took over 1500 hours of work to create using Legos & stop-motion techniques. Not too sure why it was created or for what reason but just sit back for a few minutes and take a trip down memory lane and witness some tight shit!

Fresno Foto Friday #13

by BryanAug 21st, 2009Comments (7)

Every Friday I’ll post a Fresno pic that I find interesting for any number of reasons
foto13_sm
A view of downtown Fresno from the tenth floor balcony of the Trade Center building (at Fulton/Tuolumne, aka. the San Joaquin Light & Power building). The tenth floor is currently being remodeled, and trust me, it will soon be one of the friggin’ coolest places to hold events downtown. Amazing views down the mall.
