RoboGeisha might be the best thing you see on the internetz today, all year

by brodiemashJun 30th, 2009Comments (3)

Japan is FUCKED up! Don’t get me wrong, I’d kill to get there and spend some time in and around Tokyo and the many outer provinces but they sure come up with some fucked up shit! Take for example this little film called RoboGeisha. Aintitcool has already called it “the best trailer you’re likely to see all year long” and you’re either going to turn this off within seconds of starting up or you’ll be like me and watch as it only snowballs out of control and gets crazier as it progresses. And if you do make it it to the end, please tell us what your favorite part of this craziness was. Mine? The bleeding buildings, Kurosawa-style! [via Aintitcoolnews]

Random Goodness: Jeff Goldblum reports on Jeff Goldblum’s death

by brodiemashJun 30th, 2009Comments (2)

Shit even Kevin Spacey wasn’t sure but in between the deaths of MJ and that other lady was a report from the Twitterverse that was proclaiming that Jeff Goldblum had died while filming a movie in New Zealand. Of course that proved to be false but that didn’t stop some news agencies to run with it, as you’ll see on the video up there. Sit back and enjoy Jeff Goldblum’s obituary as read by Jeff Goldblum. And God bless Twitter.

My love of all things aviation has me looking forward to this film from Mira Nair but since we all know how this story ends, well maybe it’s best to not invest yourself in something that you know is going to be a otherwise down ending, just like Valkyrie. I hope they film a scene for the DVD where she makes it all the way just too appease idiots like me.

Random Goodness: MJ brings out the best in people

SPOLIER: Michael Jackson died last week. Oh, Michael Jackson. You see what your death has done to your fans? It’s turning us into unruly drunkies who interrupt Steve Ryan as he’s trying to just do his job. Damn yooz, Michael!! We miss you, dawg! But I guess that’s what happen’s when you have a leeee-tle too much to drink, huh? What’s your name, Nina!?

Dem Trailers: The Box

[Insert vagina joke here] [Insert childish laughter here] You done? Well how about you grow up for a second so we can talk about this movie whose central point revolves around a magical box akin to the Staples Easy Button, only this one kills. Adult shit. Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly returned a few years ago and force fed the audience his”opus” Southland Tales which sucked donkey balls in this blogger’s opinion, now he’s returned to remedy that with The Box. Buzz indicates positive feedback but not being a HUGE Donnie Darko fan, I’m still leery about this one but the trailer looks intriguing. Let us know what you think and also: Would you push that button?

Fresno Film & Entertainment Commission gets funding

by brodiemashJun 24th, 2009Comment (1)

at-work-arriflex-film-camera3The Fresno City Council voted yesterday on the motion of cutting funding to the Fresno Film & Entertainment Commission (FFEC) and in a 5 to 2 vote decided to keep funding the entity. So another year, another round of Russian roulette and they’re still here. So some people are not very happy with the result & I’d like to hear from everyone on this issue. It seems to me like the issue was painted in the mainstream media as a choice between a fire house & the FFEC and that brought a lot of negativity against the commission. Essential safety services are necessary and in no way would I say the commission is more important than protecting citizens but to fact of the matter is that the FFEC, according to the numbers provided by Fresno Film Commissioner Ray Arthur, brought in over $700,000 in revenue last year so compared to the $140,000 budget, I’d say that’s a pretty decent return. At this point, the pressure is on for the FFEC to continue to deliver and increase that revenue number for next year and I’m sure they will be trying their best in order to avoid having to do this again and I wish them good luck. Please feel free to chime in here with your rants, ideas, suggestions or anything else you might think that needs to be discussed on this issue.

Zero Punctuation: Prototype review

by brodiemashJun 24th, 2009Comments (2)

So Bryan told me the other day “Hey, how about you stop being lazy and write something to go along with your Zero Punctuation posts, you lazy fuck!” After I ripped his throat out with my feet (cause that’s how we do in Firebaugh. Savages…) I started to think that maybe he had a point. I have been lazy, I won’t deny that so from now on, I will do this in memory of Bryan Harley. Guess he just caught me at a bad time… Oh yeah, Prototype came out this week (*snore*) but if I were you, I’d be saving my duckets for Fight Night 4. About fucken time we get Julio Cesar Chavez in this bitch!

Dem Trailers: Ponyo

Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away) is back with his latest opus in Ponyo, which was inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Little Mermaid and reeks of the usual beautiful imagery expected from a Studio Ghibli release. And just for you Miyazaki fans, he’s going to be making a rare American appearance at UC Berkeley next month so if you’re hardcore enough, I suggest you make plans to attend. Awesome stuff!

Dumb Drum Get-together #5: The Fast & The Furious

by brodiemashJun 22nd, 2009Comments (12)

fast_and_the_furiousPeople hate this movie, I know. Actually, since I’ve come out with my love/hate relationship of this film, more & more people tell me straight to the mask how much they hate this film. It’s cool, I totally understand. But it’s still a pretty entertaining flick and I’ll be damned if I miss it on the big screen and miss feeling like it was 2001 all over again (this has to be one of the newest films presented as part of the Flashback Features series). So with that, Dumb Drum is throwing another long delayed Gettogether! It all goes down this Thursday, June 25th at Me ‘n Ed’s Coney Island Grill at Riverpark starting at 6:30pm and will continue until the film begins at 8pm over at Edward’s Theater across the way (please be aware of the time change from the previous events). Tickets for the film are $5 and the happy hours deals will be in effect until 7pm (admittedly, they are kinda weak sauce) so bring a $10 spot and you should be pretty good. Come bring your antisocial ass to meet some other antisocial asses and we can all sit at the bar being all antisocial together! Check out the trailer after the break and just be aware: I might be spewing lines all over the place on this one so please aim your bricks in my general direction. Hope to see some of you out there this Thursday and please refrain from doing donuts in your front-wheel drive Honda Civic in the parking lot after the screening. Actually, do them so we can laugh when the cops come and tow your shit away. Read more…

Dem Trailers: Inglorious Basterds

by brodiemashJun 22nd, 2009Comments (3)

Sometimes I feel like I’m kinda hard on Tarantino. Ever since I read the book Rebels On The Backlot I’ve grown to dislike him even though I’m not even sure how much of those stories are even true. But I can say that his films are immensely entertaining and I always anticipate to hear what dude is working on next. And Inglorious Basterds is no different. The new trailer dropped and gives us a more cohesive look at the finished product and instills in me, once again, a burning desire to see this film come later this summer. What do you guys think?
