Dem Trailers: ’77

by brodiemashMay 26th, 2009Comments (2)

A coming of age story about the Star Wars phenomenon, this film has been sitting around for a while now, but it seems like it might finally be getting some mainstream love. Directed by Patrick Read Johnson and previously titled 5-25-77 (the actual release date of the classic sci-fi film), the film premiered last October on the film festival circuit. No distributor has picked it up yet, but something tells me it won’t be too long. Maybe a Fresno Filmworks future pick? I vote “Yes, Please!” What do you guys think?

Compliance! Flight Of The Navigator gets a reboot from Disney

Since Dinsey started remaking movies from the past, I always wondering if they’d get around to redoing one of my all time Disney favorites in Flight Of The Navigator. Well, Slash Film has confirmed that indeed that travesty will be taking place. Reading the article over there, the bad news news is that the script is being written by Wild Hogs scribe Brad Copeland. Ugh, that can’t be good. Sure, dude’s got some work in for Arrested Development & My Name Is Earl but Wild Hogs, really?! Fuck’s sake this could turn out really, really bad. They better get Paul Reubens to return as the voice at the very least. And throw Sarah Jessica Parker in there as well, for old time’s sake! What do you guys think? Theses remakes are gonna happen so which ones would you like to see be redone?

Modern Warfare 2 trailer drops; my wallet prepares to lose weight

by brodiemashMay 25th, 2009Comment (1)

I don’t play as many video games as I used to, I’m ashamed to admit. The last time I really got into a game was probably the original Modern Warfare (as you might have noticed, they’ve decided to drop the Call Of Duty moniker entirely) and that sucked up so much of my time it was scary. Halo was cool, but it was nothing compared to the amount of time I spent playing CoD online. Loved it! So as of right now, I’m going to try my best to clear my schedule so come Nov. 11th when the game is released, I can once again turn into a couch bum and veg out blasting foos on the wonderful internet cause if this trailer is any indication, I won’t be doing much else come Winter 2009.

Random Goodness: The Fast & The Furious in five seconds

A little longer than five seconds, but well worth your time. If you haven’t seen the film, be ready to join us for a Dumb Drum Gettogether next month when the film will be part of the Flashback Features. But for now, I will be needing NOS all weekend long now. Thanks a grip, internet. I owe you one!

Fresno Foto Friday #6

Every Friday I’ll post a Fresno pic that I find interesting for any number of reasons

Hotel Fresno
Disabled? I’d say so.

It’s still Friday, right? And I know this is somewhat of a repeat, but don’t fret… I’ve got plenty of new ideas for future fridays, including branching outside downtown.

Indie flicks playing in Fresno this week

UPDATE!: As I expected, “Rudo y Cursi” and “Is Anybody There?” have been booted with the arrival of “Terminator Salvation” and “Dance Flick.” For shame. At least we got 7 days, hope you guys were able to make it out!

Original Post (May 18, 2009):
The movie-monopoly that is Regal Entertainment Group has graced us with the presence of a couple indie flicks in Fresno multiplexes this week. Opening last Friday at Regal Manchester Stadium 16 (aka. Signature) was the Mexican comedy / drama “Rudo y Cursi” (starring Diego Luna) and the British comedy / drama
Is Anybody There?” (starring Michael Caine).

I actually recommended these films to Fresno Filmworks, but it looks like Regal already had ‘em on the docket… which is surprising. But we Fresnans don’t care how we get our indie flicks (OK not entirely true, still support FFW!), just as long as we get ‘em! So go out there and see these flicks, it’ll show Regal there’s a market in the Central Valley for art/indie films. And do it fast, because with more summer blockbusters just around the corner… I doubt these films will be in multiplexes for long. Catch the trailers after the break. Read more…

Random Goodness: Punched in the face – Freestyle edition

by brodiemashMay 22nd, 2009Comments (4)

Call me a simpleton, but seeing people get punched in the face is something that taps directly into my primal funny bone (which I imagine is shaped like something out of The Flintstones) and causes me to laugh every time. Well, if you’re like me, you can enjoy this freestyle gone personal and hence the punch in the face. I mean, when you start talking about abortion, it always becomes a heated… Well, just check out the vid and you’ll see. Peep it, laugh (or not) and you have yourself a great Memorial Day weekend!
