Edwards summer ‘Flashback Features’ announced!

by BryanMar 28th, 2009Comments (10)

edwardsYou didn’t think those weekly Flashback Features over at Edwards were going to end next Thursday after Titanic, did you? Of course not! Regal has just announced another 16 weeks of films, which will last us until July 23rd! Showtimes are Thursdays at 8 p.m. (that’s one hour earlier than before!) and the cost remains $5. Can’t beat that!

Before you scope out the new line-up below, I’ve got a challenge for downtown theater spaces like Warnors and Crest…. start doing flashback features!! We movie nerds just can’t get enough. They’re fun, they bring in lots of folks, and they’re seemingly profitable. If we can’t get a full blown movie theater downtown, I’d at least settle for once-a-week flashbacks. Make it happen! And now for the new line-up….

April 9 – Fatal Attraction
April 16 – The Silence of the Lambs
April 23 – Happy Gilmore
April 30 – Dazed and Confused
May 7 – Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
May 14 – Apollo 13
May 21 – Jerry Maguire
May 28 – Ghost
June 4 – The Fifth Element
June 11 – The Godfather
June 18 – A Clockwork Orange
June 25 – The Fast and the Furious
(Brodie’s head just exploded)
July 2 – Gladiator
July 9 – Forrest Gump
July 16 – Reservoir Dogs
July 23 – Grease

So whaddya think? Thumbs up, thumbs down? Let us know in the comments!

Random Goodness: Making of the RDX commercial

by brodiemashMar 26th, 2009Comment (1)

When I first saw this commercial I thought to myself “I wonder how long that would of taken if they did it traditionally & without the aid of computers.” Little did I realize that that’s exactly how they did it. Wow. I can’t imagine the kind of work & time it would take to animate a wall that big and with all that detail. But check out the video and check it out. It’s quite amazing and stay till the end to see the finished product. Quite breathtaking, indeed. Props to Acura for letting the artists do their thing on this project!

Dem Trailers: Taking Woodstock

by brodiemashMar 26th, 2009Leave a Comment

It seems like more & more trailers are being premiered on TV shows these days and this one follows suit (although it makes sense to premier a movie starring Demetri Martin on his own show, WTWTA on Ellen just doesn’t make sense to me). The film from director Ang Lee tells the true story of how the little concert called Woodstock came together a few years ago. The cast is top notch but I’m not sure if Martin is leading man material. Perhaps this will convince us all. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Guillermo Del Toro talks about his second house full of nerdy goodness; jealousy ensues

by brodiemashMar 26th, 2009Comment (1)

Over at Collider, they had a chance to chat with director Guillermo Del Toro as he did press for the Hellboy 2 DVD release a while back. And although most of the press hit him hard with questions regarding his upcoming film The Hobbit, the fine journalists were able to get some more interesting info from the Mexican director about his second house full of cool ass shit. And damn does he have some cool shit including a “haunted library”, secret passageways & 18th century books on ghosts & vampires. Fucken awesome. Listen to the man yourself and let your imagination run wild. We need some pictures of this magical place right now!

Random Goodness: Naked Dawn

by brodiemashMar 26th, 2009Comments (3)

Everyone remembers Red Dawn, right? Well I only actually kinda do but the premise is there and that’s all you really need to understand for this spoof featuring Rob Schneider, Vinnie Jones & Mena Suvari. A lot of nudity in this one and although much of it is censored, just a heads up cause I’d still consider it very NSFW. But it’s so worth it.

UPDATE: If you’re like me and need to see this in HD Quicktime style, it is up over here at Apple. Worth the wait!

Yes, this trailer premiered on Ellen this morning for some odd reason but it is now here for you to enjoy. And remember to catch it this weekend on the big screen in front of Monsters vs. Aliens. No more words, just watch!

wtwta1This Friday brings us not only our beloved Fresno being the butt of many jokes in the film Monsters vs Aliens but also the first trailer for Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are. Check out  some more images after the break & check out the full story here as well as the rest of the images. I can’t wait…. Read more…

Dem Trailers: Astro Boy

by brodiemashMar 24th, 2009Comments (2)

UPDATE: Seem like Hulu pulled the trailer. Here’s the version from Trailer Addict.

Astro Boy is not a mainstream fictional character around this part of the world but in Japan he’s like the Mickey Mouse of Japanese anime. So later this year, Osamu Tezuka’s creation will be getting his proper introduction to the Americas as this little animated film is being released from the director of the CG TMNT film & bringing some pretty good voice talent along for the ride including Nic Cage. This trailer looks fun but not sure if this creation from 1952 is gonna play for a 2009 audience as it looks like they’ve kept to the original specs so far. I’m sure the fan boys will love it & hopefully it’ll crack that shell for mainstream audiences to truly enjoy.

Dem Reviews: Let The Right One In

by brodiemashMar 23rd, 2009Comments (4)

9c5ed0fed3Twlight was released on DVD this past Friday night and I was hyped up! Not for the film but for Vintage Fridays happening over at Palominos (if you didn’t attend, you missed out. It was awesome!). But rather than make this a completely vampire-less weekend, my good friend Netflix Queue sent me a copy of the Swedish film Let The Right One In. I have been hearing nothing but glowing reviews of the film (Harry Knowles over at Aintitcoolnews.com named it as his best film of 2008 and called it quite possibly “the best Vampire film ever made”!) and although it has been around the webernetz for a while, I wanted to wait to check it out in it’s full glory properly with a non-bootlegged image. by brodiemashMar 23rd, 2009Comments (3)

fifthFresno Filmworks has announced their lineup for the upcoming 2009 Fresno Film Festival and for the first time, I’m actually hella excited! Here is the lineup:

Friday, April 17th
Skills Like This
(w/ short film Old Dogs)

Saturday, April 18th
The General (with short film Duke Baa)
The Garden (with short film Colorado Experience)
Shorts Program 1 (with special filmmaker appearances)
The Class

Sunday, April 19th
Mermaid (with short film Pink Bag)
Waltz With Bashir (with excerpts from One More Minute)
Shorts Program 2 (with special filmmaker appearances)
Che: The Argentine

Yup, looks like Fresno if getting Soderbergh’s latest film here and I can’t think of a better closing film than The Argentine. Sure, it’s only going to be the first half of the 4 hour long epic film but it’s still a blessing. Waltz With Bashir should be awesome as it’s received rave reviews and won a Golden Globe. I’ve also heard positive things about the opening film, Skills Like This and definitely look forward to that one as well. Head on over to the official site for full details on the films, check out some trailers for some films I mentioned above after the break and be sure to let us know what you think of this years lineup in the comments.
