Dem Trailers: He’s Just Not That Into You

An adaptation of the New York Times best seller book of the same name, this film seems to have been in production for years already but it’s finally being released in time for Valentine’s Day 2009. Scarlett Johansson & Jennifer Connelly in the same movie? Yes please! But for real, it actually looks like this might be somewhat entertaining as it seems to want to capture both sides of the dating coin: male & female. Has anyone out there read the book? I’m just wondering if this looks like an faithful adaptation of the source material. Leave us a comment and let us know. Now to find a date by February….

Who wants an HDTV for Christmas? Psht! Get them some badass art instead!

So your heading out this Friday morning to brave the waves of people. Congrats! You can always refer to my previous post on Black Friday to help guide you. And after your done running people over with your shopping cart, go home, take a nap & get ready to hit up Broadway Studios in the afternoon. Why, you ask? Well, to help support some local artists, of course! Remember, we all need to buy some artwork from Teresa Flores cause she hasn’t eaten in like 3 days cause she’s saving money to get a projector. Bring her some ramen, you get a free hug* (*hug not guaranteed). Also, check out Robert Amador’s stuff. Dude’s style is in-credi-fucken-ble! Only way to describe his style is like Bill Sienkiewicz crossed with Frank Miller. Nice… A good cause so get on out there this Friday afternoon and spend some $$$ on some original artwork for that boring ass wall in your brother-in-law’s hallway. Brodaway Studios is located at 1416 Broadway in downtown Fresno and the show goes from 6pm to 10pm. See you guys out there & don’t be stingy!

Random Goodness: Meteor (or so they say…) over Edmonton

So the eggheads say it was a meteor. I say it’s one of the craziest, most amazing things I’ve ever seen. If I saw that coming down over my town, I’d be saying some Hail Marys that’s for damn sure. I mean it looks like the sun rose for a split second in that video. You can see the blue sky! That’s nuts. Or maybe it wasn’t a meteor but rather a UFO? Hmmmm, if these guys show up, we’ll all know….

Robert Downey Jr. talks Avengers film direction; casting call reveals some Iron Man 2 details

Sure we all want to see an Avengers movie. To see Captain America, Thor & Iron Man team up to stop a greater threat would be beyond the greatest thing on earth. But one of the things that might bring the house down is this question: How do you put industrialist a Tony Stark, a plausible reality, in the same room with Thor, Son of Odin & keeper of Asgard, and expect for people to not laugh. Luckily, during an interview with MTV Movies, Robert Downey Jr. addressed this very issue:

“If we don’t get it right, it’s really going to suck. It has to be the crowning blow of Marvel’s best and brightest, because it’s the hardest thing to get right. It’s tough to spin all the plates for one of these characters,” Downey tells MTV, later adding: “The danger you run with colliding all these worlds is that Jon was very certain that “Iron Man” should be set in a very realistic way. Nothing that happened in Iron Man is really outside the realm of possibility. Once you start talking about Valhalla and supersized super soldiers and jolly green giants, it warrants much further discussion.”

Yup, so at least they’re thinking about it and I’m sure Robert Downey Jr. & Jon Favreau (who will be producing the film) won’t let the credibility they built on the Iron Man film go right out the window. Also, this casting call for the film might reveal some insight into the villain(s) that will be doing battle with our brave hero (Crimson Dynamo? Titanium Man?) in the Iron Man sequel, as well as a possible hint that a certain Russian assassin in the form of Black Widow might be showing up. Interesting….

Random Goodness: G.O.B. Bluth does magic on Sesame Street

So the movie adaptaion of the canceled TV show (and one of the greatest ones) Arrested Development seems to be moving ahead full steam but what if you need your Bluth Family hit right now? Well, I’m not sure how old this is but I hadn’t seen it until this morning and I thought it was awesome. Thanks to Ethan for pointing this guest appearance out.

Black Friday looms; get yer shop on!

So yeah, hope you guys are ready for some shopping this week. No? Yeah, me either. Maybe it’s just the disappointing ads from Best Buy & Circuit City or the sagging economy tightening it’s grip around my wallet but I’m not my usual excited self this year. But I figured some of you guys out there would be interested in picking up a cheap TV, some aight deals on a Blu-Ray player and of course cheap DVDs & video games so I wanted to inform you of BF Ads.net (one of the many sites online offering details on Friday’s sales) where you can go and start planning your route for this Friday & you don’t want to wait until your newspaper is delivered Thursday morning. And if you do see me out on Friday, be sure to talk me out of purchasing that $600 LCD HD television. Enjoy, good luck & try to avoid this again.

Random Goodness: Immersion

So a New York Times photog named Robbie Copper (what a great newspaper photographer name, right? Up there with Jimmy Olsen & Peter Parker) decided to create this video called Immersion which captures kids playing video games and the faces they make while they’re transported to fantasy world. Pretty interesting to see the eye glaze over as dude from Hackers asks for people to die. The stone faced girl is good, too. But something tells me I probably make stupider faces than these kids when I play videogames but one of these days I might video my session to see how dumb I look playing Mario Kart. [via Videogum]

Swede Fest The Second has come & gone…..

I’d could do a recap here but Will Albritton over at the Beehive has already taken the time to do it. Plus it’s a lazy Monday today. I’d like to thank everyone who submitted entires to the festival because without you guys, the event would not be possible. To everyone who ventured to Chinatown and sat down in the awesome C.A.F.E. Infoshop with a room full of strangers and enjoyed some of Fresno’s filmmaking goods, thanks to you as well.  We’re going to start planning the next one pretty soon so be sure to start thinking what your swede is going to be and keep an eye here for an announcement pretty soon. Random Goodness: Bruce Lee playing ping pong….WITH NUNCHUCKS!

I think we can all agree that Bruce Lee was bad ass. I mean, look what he did to Chuck Norris. And we all know Chuck Norris is not to be fucked with. And this little gem shows us his true nunchuck skills. This viral ad for the Nokia N96 was never aired here in the States but now the power of the internetz has blessed us again. [via Unique Daily]

Dem Trailers: The Wrestler

The hype surrounding this mythical movie has been deafening for the last couple of months and without as so much as a trailer to give us some insight into the film’s context, it’s been kinda hard for me to totally get behind this 100% (although Aronofsky directing is enough for me). Well now we have a trailer and guess what? It looks pretty bad ass! Head on over to Apple over here to check it out and let us know if you think that this truly marks the return of Mickey Rourke.
