Officially official: Del Toro directing The Hobbit films
Yup, Del Toro will be directing both Hobbit films. Yeah, it’s old news but I felt that we needed to close the chapter on this story and wait for the long silence between now and when the first info pops up on the films. Del Toro has stated that the whole process will take him around 5 years or so to do and is planning on moving to New Zealand to join Peter Jackson’s team. 2011 or 2012 is the rough date they’re giving for the release of the films. White Wizard extraordinaire Ian McKellan has confirmed in this interview with Empire Magazine that he will indeed be returning to the role of Gandalf in the films. Now we play the waiting game….Read the whole story over at Variety here.

Movie Review: Iron Man
Iron Man – 4 Stars (out of 5)
When I was a kid, Marvel released a book called The Iron Man Manual showcasing some of the technical aspects of building a flying suit or armor (Dave, if you can find this for me…) and I remember the impact it had on me: As soon as I was done going through it, I wanted to build my own suit of armor. Much to my disappointment, I have yet to reach that goal. But my desire to see a live action Iron Man has been fulfilled by director Jon Favreau, flanked by Robert Downey Jr. There were a couple of scene’s in this film where I honestly felt like I was going to shed a tear (remember, I’m an sentimental bitch) as I saw what was transpiring before my eyes. To see Stark blasting foes with his repulsor blasts, shooting missiles out of his armor, punching through walls….pure bliss. The ending battle was only okay but the rest of the film made up for it and the S.H.I.E.L.D. setup was awesome. No War Machine armor, no Sam Jackson as Nick Fury, no Incredible Hulk crossover but overall, one bad ass film that will, if your a hardcore Iron Man fan, blast you like Unibeam to the face. SUPERIOR TECH!
Bootleg Indy 4 trailer still up….for now.

Looks like this may be the final trailer but who knows for sure. But it looks pretty cool. Check it out and hurry before it’s pulled!
Take a knee! Lets welcome PartyMarty
Another week, another contributor. PartyMarty (aka Martinez aka bringer of the word “Nyup” into our daily vocab) has joined us here at The Dumb Drum and has already begun to contribute. PartyMarty also has his own blog, GrafightJunkie, in which he showcases his artwork among other wacky things he comes across when he’s doing what he does best: internet cowboying. Nyup. So please join us as we give him a virtual handshake (I said SHAKE!) and wish him well on the journey through the wackiness that is this blog. NYUP!

WORT! WORT! WORT!
Halo fanboys rejoice! McFarlane Toys has announced new 12 inch Halo 3 figures will be released this coming Fall. The 12-inch Master Chief sports an assault rifle and grenade, and also features 18 points of articulation as well as 26 moving parts. A 12-inch Blue Spartan MARK VI will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart, which also hits store shelves in September. There will also be a new Legendary Collection which is comprised of three highly detailed, non-articulated large-scale figures: Master Chief, Arbiter and Brute Chieftain. Accurate down to the smallest detail, the Legendary figures are posed to re-create the look of in-game play. The line, available in specialty stores only, will be available in November. Go here to check out the full size pics of the new figures over at Kotaku.com.

A little more Indy 4 trickles onto the web in the form of a new TV spot
Man, either the marketing machine is waiting for the GTA 4 & Iron Man hype to die down before hitting full steam ahead or they just think this film will sell itself (it will). Anyways, head on over to Aintitcoolnews.com here to download the spot in super keen Quicktime formats!
Is perfection really upon us? Grand Theft Auto 4 releases at midnight
Never in my history of being a video game nerd have I seen a game so universally praised. I mean, nearly 100% (at the time of this writing, the Metacritic score was at 99%) average score from the gaming press, which have been known to be a bunch of whiney bitches (can’t wait to see what Yahtzee has to say about this title). So are you guys going to be at your local store tonight? If so, take some pics, videos whatever and send them this way! We’ll be out at our Gamestop so maybe we’ll see you out there (listen to the podcast for more info on how to score a FREE hug!) and is you need to read the review before you buy, try IGN.com here for the lowdown. Too lazy to run over there? Watch the Gametrailers review right here:
